NORTH STAR
![]() I found out about this one when someone thought about getting it for me as a wedding gift. When I found out that he was kidding I was a little disappointed. Why? Because it had Christopher Lambert in it.
Yes, I am a big fan. I mean Highlander made it into my personal top 10 favorite movies. But it wasn't just Highlander. I've enjoyed his work since his debut as Tarzan in The Legend of Greystoke. And outside of maybe the godawful Druids I can't say I have hated anything he's appeared in. (Druids was so shitty however that I almost refused to watch anything else with him in it.)
In this one, directed by Nils Gaup, from Pathfinder fame, he plays a half breed indian during the gold rush in Alaska circa 1899. His foil, played by James Caan, plays a greedy, ruthless miner who wants his land. They chase each other through a frozen wilderness. Yep, that pretty much sums it up.
Both men do a good job making their characters what they are supposed to be, and the action flows pretty nicely. This one won't win any awards but it was a fun little romp. The only truly memorable moment in the film is a battle that takes place in a cave that serves as a Native's temple.
I want to go on and on and praise this as the best thing ever but that would be a lie. It was an okay and fun little film that killed an hour and a half that I could have used mowing. Worth a rent to kill time and that's about all.
