MAX PAYNE
Oh no, not another flippin' movie based on a video game.  Well, at least this one doesn't have Uwe Bolle in the mix.  (How that man gets budgeted for the garbage he releases I will never know.)

As a video game film I think it failed.  It wasn't paced like a game and it didn't look like a game, although there were plenty of CGI effects.  What they gave me was a very well made action thriller that would have kept me guessing if I didn't have a working knowledge of Norse mythology.

The movie follows Max Payne as he tries to uncover the mystery behind his wife's murder.  Pretty standard detective drama fare.  Mark Wahlberg puts on a nice performance although I don't think the material demanded to much of him,

Milla Kunis gets to exercise her Russian a little in this film and she does manage to get past her Seventies Show character and present herself more as an actress than just another pretty face.

All and all I really enjoyed this one.  The action sequences were taut and well played and everyone did the job they were hired to do.  Of course, I have never played the game so I don't know if a video game purist would enjoy this.

My only complaint was that Beau Bridges might have been a little miscast as I found him a trifle unbelievable near the films conclusion.

I recommend this only if you want a well done action flick.  If your looking for something deeper go rent something else.

Oh and if I was going to compare it to another film for look and feel I would probably go with Constantine.  And by the by I liked that one too.
