PERFECT BLUE

I will start this off by saying, I do like Anime.  Actually what I like is a good story and if I can get that in a Japanese cartoon or a live action film doesn't matter.  If you are a fan of anime then go ahead and e-mail me at the website and I will review more anime series and such for you.  But I digress.

Perfect Blue tells the story of a pop diva turned actress.  Shortly after her change in careers murders begin to happen to those closest to her.  All fingers point to her.

This was well-animated, and actually pretty to look at.  However, it was a typical crime thriller that just happened to be drawn.  The story was well paced and the voice actors did admirable jobs but I really can't figure out why the makers of this decided an animated feature would be the best way to convey it.  To me Anime should be used to convey stories that are to fantastic to tell in any other visual medium.

I can't say I don't recommend it, as it was an interesting thriller, but on the other hand I can't say I do.  I guess if you are a fan of animated film and want something with a little more bite than a children's movie then rent it.  If you prefer your thrillers to be live action then don't. because in all honesty it isn't going to offer you anything new.
