REPO: The Genetic Opera

I hate musicals.  Everytime someone opens there mouth in a movie and song comes out I want to slap them.  Wait, let me reiterate.  I hate musical films.  On stage I don't find this near as annoying as I feel the musical does just as admirable a job as speaking for conveying emotions.  And on stage it lends a bit of pageantry to the proceedings.  In film its just fucking annoying.  The only musical in the history of film that i have scene and enjoyed thoroughly was Shock Treatment, the sequel to Rocky Horror Picture Show which was okay.  Those two films were at least funny and they actually talked until it was time to sing.

Back to Repo.  In the not so distant future a plague of organ failures befalls humanity.  Millions die until GeneCo, a foundling company finds a way to replace and harvest organs for a fee.  And if you get behind in your organ payments then they send in the repo man to collect their property back.

This was enough up my alley to make me want to see it.  It promised gore and a gothic setting.  The only thing that stopped me from getting this sooner was the singing.

The soundtrack was kind of a hybrid industrial metal thing and I did like some of the songs.  It also featured Ogre from the band Skinny Puppy which I like.  That was about all I liked.  They actually almost never spoke, singing everything and there were times when they didn't sound to good doing it.  I really only enjoyed one scene in the whole film, with the character known as the Grave Robber doing a round with the lead and Paris Hilton.

All and all I found this to be a waste of time but then again I hate this kind of shit.  The only thing I can really say is at least it was better than Bride Wars.
