RECYCLE

Hello again. Your favorite couch tumor has returned with another opinion. I just finished watching the Pang Brother’s newest venture, Re-cycle.

It’s easier for me to go ahead and give you the synopsis from the back of the DVD than it is to try and summarize.

“When a bestselling novelist decides to write a horror novel she opens the door to a terrifying realm of the supernatural, guided by one of the books phantasmagorical creations come to life.”

Now if you listened to our first podcast, you’d know that I am indeed a fan of the Pang Brother’s The Eye series. Not so much on Bangkok Dangerous but I forgave them enough to want to watch what they came up with next.

When I saw the cover my initial reaction was that they had created a chinese version of Pan’s Labyrinth.

It took me two sittings to watch this, not because I was bored with it, just a little too tired when I started it. Up to the point that I had watched in the first sitting I thought I was correct in my first assertion. But now that I have watched it in its entirety I realized, not only was I wrong but the Pang’s may have just made the most stunning dark fantasy film ever.

The special effects were largely seamless, and the imagery was dark and menacing. Plus they took you through a world fully realized in a third of the time it took Peter Jackson.

To top all of this off the film actually had a message. Not your typical fable type moral but a true message, that they were successful in driving home.

It isn’t a horror film per se. So if that is what you want then you will not be happy with what you get. It is a very dark fantasy film that left me wanting more and nigh speechless. I will summarize this review with the word that escaped my mouth when the end credits began to roll.

Wow. Check out Dan's Review here.
