THE ROCKER

Synopsis: Rainn Wilson plays the drum in the Metal Band Vesuvius, but is ousted for the band to sign a record deal in the 80s. Flash Forward to today, Rainn Wilson is in a dead-end job and Vesuvius is the world’s most successful band. Rainn is forced to move in with his sister and family after losing his job. His nephew starts a band, their drummer quits and they ask Rainn to sit.

PROS
Over Top Comedic Prologue
Will Arnett

CONS
Pretty Predictable
Too Much Rainn

Final Analysis: Not too much about this movie stands out. It is watchable and enjoyable but doesn’t leave much of an impression. Rainn Wilson while great as Dwight on the Office, can’t really carry this vehicle. Seem like this could have been the Tenacious D movie they didn’t make. Although the kids were adequate actors I thought that the movie focused too much on them and after the set up of the film, not enough on Rainn Wilson’s character. The only thing that really left an impression on me is the prologue when the band kicks Rainn out to replace him with the Record Label Owner’s nephew.

NOT BAD, NOT GREAT BUT STILL ENTERTAINING
