Final Analysis:Zack & Miri reflects Kevin Smith’s consistent film making flaws and aptitudes. Kevin Smith has always had a knack for injecting the humanity into his main characters creating fully realized personalities that are easy to empathize with. However, he also brings some negatives the once shocking and irreverent humor bordering mostly on the sophomoric and simple. As stated in the Pros the main characters are fully realized personality but the supporting character are caricatures of people completely lacking in depth and are not so relatable, at times to a distracting point. Also present is a more inclusive and unnecessary approach, Smith goes out of his way to make it clear that he is a friend of GLAAD and not an enemy, annoying. Also the gross out humor in this was far from needed and did not really deliver any solid laughs for me. When I laughed it was because of the character based humor. Not that Seth Rogen is a horrible actor, he isn’t, but at time his range is stretched to breaking point here and it is obvious. Whereas, I really enjoyed the performance by Elizabeth Banks. A decent little film that you would do alright to rent if, you don’t mind talk about vaginas, penises, nudity and poop.
